GLOBE Europe Focal Points' Strategy Meeting
GLOBE Europe will be holding its annual Strategy Meeting on 30 April, during which Focal Points will coordinate to discuss the organisation’s strategy and position for the coming year. This conference will be devoted exclusively to developing GLOBE Europe’s position on mitigation strategies to complement those of the Climate and Energy package adopted last December, and will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels, in the context of the EU's position at the upcoming COP-15 meeting in Copenhagen this December. GLOBE Europe will agree on suggestions towards a credible and workable commitment to reduce emissions globally, and to make the targets set in the EU energy and climate change package, pass from promises into action, amidst a worsening economic crisis.
In this respect one of the key focuses of the meeting, will be to look at the current economic climate, and how, although clearly presenting tough challenges, it also provides the EU and the wider world with big opportunities to move to a low-carbon future. The day-long event will consist of several different discussion groups, after which the representatives will come to a consensus on GLOBE Europe’s position (for a copy of the draft agenda, click here)
Those present will include, amongst others, GLOBE Europe President Steen Gade MP, GLOBE EU President Anders Wijkman MEP, and Deputy Director General for DG Environment at the European Commission, Jos Delbeke.
