On Tuesday 13 October authors Herbert Girardet and Miguel Mendonça from the World Future Council presented their new book in the European Parliament, at a reception hosted by Members of the European Parliament Sirpa Pietikäinen (Christian Democrats and Globe EU President), Rebecca Harms (Greens) and Vittorio Prodi (Socialists).

Written in the run up to the Copenhagen Climate Summit, this book explores both proven and emerging solutions for building a global green energy economy - the basis for a prosperous and sustainable world. Each of the ten chapters addresses a key issue (e.g. Energy Change, Climate Change; Carbon and the Biosphere; Renewable Energy; The Green Collar Economy; Renewing the City; From Global to Local, etc.) and puts forward positive win-win recommendations - citing examples of policies or innovations that have turned problems into solutions through practical, yet innovative approaches.

This book has the potential to address what parliamentarians have identified as possibly the biggest challenge in the fight against climate change: to sway public opinion - which so often has strong green ambitions but opposes major renewable energy proposals - and give MEPs the support they need to put « green theory » onto the right legal track. The World Future Council - an independent international foundation for promoting change - is represented in Brussels with its EU-Liaison office.
