GLOBE EU 6th Legislature Legacy Message
On 2 April GLOBE EU held a press-conference delivering the 6th Legislature Legacy Message after which a lunch was held, hosted by ALDE leader and MEP Graham Watson. The conference and lunch gave GLOBE EU the opportunity to discuss the successes that have been achieved during the 2004-2009 European Parliament term, and to look at the role it will play in future.
During the press-conference which was attended by GLOBE EU President and EPP-ED MEP Anders Wijkman, GLOBE EU member and EPP-ED MEP Avril Doyle and Graham Watson, each praised the work that GLOBE EU had managed to achieve.
GLOBE EU members have played a prominent role in all the dossiers included in the Energy and Climate Change Package, with many working either as rapporteurs or shadow rapporteurs.
They have also been involved with a whole range of briefings and events involving EU institutions, the private sector, NGOs and think-tanks, whilst also being influential in passing key pieces of legislation through the appropriate EU bodies.
Finally GLOBE EU members have also been at the centre of international climate change negotiations, with a presence at the UN climate change summits in Buenos Aires, Montreal, Nairobi, Bali and Poznan. In addition they have actively participated in the GLOBE International G8+5 Climate Change Dialogue, shadowing the G8+5 summits.
