Dear Members,
We are very pleased to inform you that Steen Gade, the president of GLOBE Europe and chairman of the Danish Parliament’s Environment Committee, this week delivered the Communiqué (click here for full version) that was developed at the last ‘Road to Copenhagen’ event, to Denmark Climate and Energy Minister Connie Hedegaard, who will be the formal co-host of next year’s COP meeting.
The Communiqué was developed at the 2nd Road to Copenhagen conference “Last Stop for Climate Action before Poznan” held on 6th November in Brussels, which was co-organised by GLOBE Europe along with the Club of Madrid and Respect Table. It includes recommendations of representatives from different sectors of society, including business, NGOs, Parliamentarians and individual citizens. This gives them a unique opportunity to influence current UN negotiations in Poznan, and ultimately the Copenhagen summit next December.
The Final Communiqué was validated by the three co-chairs, Ms. Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the European Commission, Ms. Mary Robinson, Vice-President of the Club of Madrid, and Ms. Gro Harlem Brundtland, UN Special Envoy on Climate Change. You can access the document by clicking on the link above.
With kind regards,
The GLOBE Europe Team
Even before the new US Administration is installed in January 2009, what role will the US delegation have played in the climate change negotiations in Poznan in December 2008? Given the other domestic and global challenges confronting the new President, what priority will he and the US Congress be able to give to climate change? How well prepared will the US be to discuss environmental security issues in the lead up to the negotiations in Copenhagen in December 2009?
