Berlin, 28-29 Oct - SAVE THE DATE - GLOBE Europe Annual Strategy Meeting
Dear GLOBE National Focal Points,
dear Members of Parliament,
I am delighted to invite you to the annual Strategy Meeting of GLOBE Europe on 28-29 October at the Bundestag in Berlin. The topics of this conference for Members of Parliaments are:
-Energy policy after Fukushima
-Sustainability (revision of the EU Sustainability Strategy, Rio+20)
Please inform your GLOBE members and all MPs who are possibly interested before the summer holidays start!
The core subject of our conference will be the energy policy after Fukushima. Germany has made a major shift in its energy policy, getting out of nuclear power and into renewables much faster than planned. Also Italy has changed its energy strategy. This has a major impact on the European markets and the European electricity grids. The conference will focus on the details of the new German legislation and discuss the impact on the presently discussed EU Energy Roadmap 2050. This EU Roadmap will influence the agenda for 2012 also in National Parliaments.
Additionally, the conference will deal with another key subject for 2012: sustainability. Next year the EU will revise its Sustainability Strategy. The Sustainability Strategy governance structures are under discussion to make sustainability a more workable approach to various fields of policy. Furthermore, 2012 will be the year of the UN conference on sustainability (Rio+20). Member States as well as the EU as a whole should define their strategy to succeed in the global process. Otherwise, it will be countries like the US, Brazil or China who will take the lead.
A draft agenda for the session will be distributed by the GLOBE Europe Secretariat in due time. Please let the Secretariat know if you and your colleagues are interested to participate at
