- 23rd March - Marine Ecosystems Recovery Plan Workshop. GLOBE EU will host a workshop open to MEPs and MPs from the key European fishing countries, which will be part of a series of regional parliamentary workshops to be celebrated worldwide, on the basis of the Recommendations of the GLOBE International Marine Technical Advisory Group. Mr Malachy Hagardon, former Environment Counselor for the Delegation of the European Commission to the United States and part of the European Commission International Climate Negotiations Team in COP15 (DG Environment), Ms Vicky Pollard, part of the European Commission International Climate Negotiations Team in COP15 (DG Environment), Ms Ditte Juul-Jorgensen, Head of DG Trade Unit on Sustainable Development and Mr Peter Czaga, Policy Officer on Sustainable Development at DG Trade, briefed the MEPs on the climate-trade interface post-COP15 and the WTO's likely response to any trade-related measures taken pursuant to climate policy, and took questions from the floor. - 8th-9th December - The Road To Copenhagen - 2009 Edition. By invitation of EU Commission Vice President Margot Wallström, the Club of Madrid, Globe Europe and Respect Table joined forces to create the Road to Copenhagen in 2007. This annual initiative builds upon the Global Leadership for Climate Action project launched in 2007 by the Club of Madrid, the United Nations Foundation, and the ongoing work of GLOBE with legislators and of Respect Table with the business community. The aim of Road to Copenhagen is to ensure that the environmentally conscious business community and other key stakeholders have a direct input into the post-2012 agreement process. - 1st December – "Supporting Europe's Parliamentarians: Europe’s response to an international agreement" – This will focus on Europe’s response to an international agreement in Copenhagen. The credibility of Europe’s position will depend on our perceived ability to act rapidly post Copenhagen. The European Council has committed to raise the EU target from a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 20% to a 30% by 2020 in the event of an agreement. However, two questions remain open: what might trigger this increase and is 30% sufficient? Venue: European Parliament, Brussels

- 3rd November - "Supporting Europe's Parliamentarians: Delivering EU leadership - future policy priorities for Europe" – This session is intended to offer MEPs an platform to debate the future challenges for Europe raised in the IEEP climate briefing including the reformulation of the budget to reflect climate priorities, embracing action on energy efficiency, delivering adaption to climate change and future of land use in this context. - 15th October -"The Role of Energy Efficiency in Climate Protection & Outlook on COP15". Mr Andor Nagy MP, GLOBE Europe's Hungarian Focal Point will host a joint Committee Meeting which will firstly focus on the national dimension of the EU's energy efficiency targets and particularly the revision of the EU Directive on Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD), followed by a briefing and discussion on the latest developments in the negotiations of a post-Kyoto climate protection deal, which will inform a parliamentary resolution on COP15.
- 13th October - "Climate Change: Meeting the Financing Challenge" – Linda McAvan MEP will host a GLOBE EU expert meeting on financing the global efforts to address the challenge of climate change. Representatives of leading European financial institutions will introduce their views on mechanisms, strategies and perspectives on how national, European and global climate change policies can advance low-carbon investments. The event will provide the investors’ perspective and support for a clear and definitive post-2012 global agreement that lays the framework for and facilitates effective national level action in developed and developing countries. This perspective and support was set out in the 2009 Investor Statement on the Urgent Need for a Global Agreement on Climate Change, which was signed by over 180 investors from around the world (including 9 EU countries), representing 13 trillion US dollars.
- 8th October - Speed Dating for Climate Change. Who is who in the Brussels policy community dealing with climate? GLOBE EU is glad to help MEPs break the ice. Twenty-two MEP's and twenty-two delegates from prominent organisations active in the field of climate policy (NGOs, experts, institutions, business community) will have a chance to meet and exchange ideas using the dynamic format of 'speed dating' for approx. 2 hours. This means that, unlike in a typical meeting, the time will be divided into seven minute slots during which the participants will have the chance to chat informally and make contact face to face. - 29th September - "Supporting Europe's Parliamentarians: The role of MEPs in influencing the EU’s position for the COP15". The series of 3 lunchtime briefings "Supporting Europe's Parliamentarians" will be held in collaboration with the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP). In the run up to Copenhagen MEPs have an important role in helping the EU coalesce a credible position for the international negotiations. External speakers and experienced MEPs will set out the positions of key players, the role of the EU and MEPs in particular. This will be followed by a debate facilitated by IEEP Director, David Baldock, aimed at identifying the roles and positions MEPs can adopt to best influence the EU’s position. - 3 December - GLOBE EU Biodiversity Lunch. IUCN will give a state of play presentation on their Countdown 2010 programme. Holcim, Unilever and key NGOs will provide practical examples from their own experience of best practice actions that stakeholders can take to help preserve biodiversity. We also hope to have the participation of Commission officials to explain what plans they have for biodiversity legislation in the forthcoming legislative term. Venue: European Parliament, Brussels
- 12 November - GLOBE EU Breakfast. "EU/UN climate policy based on outdated science". Dr Johan Rockström, head of the Swedish Environment Institute (SEI), will speak and lead a discussion on why the targets underpinning EU & UN climate talks are not sufficient, in the light of the latest science. Specifically, Mr Rockström will argue that the goal of 450 ppm & the 2 degree target are outdated and need to be revised. Venue: European Parliament, Brussels
